JotShot is a menu bar app for macOS that turns a screenshot into a visual note, described as a modern replacement for Skitch. Capture with Command-Control-4 (customizable), then mark up with arrows, lines, shapes, pen, highlighter, text, numbered stamps and pixelate blur. Copy, drag, save as PNG, JPEG or PDF, or use the share sheet. It is not affiliated with Skitch or Evernote.

It is a one-time purchase of $0.99 on the Mac App Store, with no subscription, no in-app purchases and free updates. The page says it needs no account and uses no network access. It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon or Intel.

Skitch made it quick to capture part of the screen, point at something with an arrow and send it on. Evernote stopped updating Skitch in 2016, so JotShot was written from scratch as a small native app for current macOS that does that one job.
