Alternatours is a global marketplace for adventure and active travel, connecting travelers with independent local guides, instructors and tour operators. Travelers can discover and book hiking, diving, climbing, kayaking, sailing, rafting, cycling and other experiences directly from the people who run them. Unlike large travel aggregators, Alternatours focuses on small local providers and helps them reach international customers without needing a large marketing operation.
I built Alternatours because I have spent years traveling and living on my yacht, and I have seen how many great local adventure experiences are difficult for international travelers to discover. At the same time, small guides and operators often have excellent products but limited access to customers. I am a programmer, so I decided to build the marketplace myself, a platform where independent providers can showcase what they actually do and travelers can discover experiences beyond standard package tourism.
